From meeting on Instagram to travelling 33 countries together in 2 years, we tell our story from the very beginning to the here and now. We launched Closer Lives in 2021 and continue to slow travel as full time digital nomads across the world. About Us: Inspiring Adventure, Cultural Discovery, and Lifestyle Inspiration Our Story: How we met We were both recovering heart broken poets on Instagram (cliché we know but it's true) in Feb. 2019, where we met and found a fairy tale of a relationship (funny how the universe likes to do these things right!?). Jenn lived in Canada and Leon was in England. As Jenn once wrote, love may not always move mountains but it can certainly cross seas! We've shared us physically meeting for the first time in Australia for a Royal Caribbean cruise and our story from there with our followers, fans and friends on Instagram. It was a pretty natural and unintentional thing for us to do really, especially after both being quite active members of the poetry community on there prior (yes there is such a thing!). We got engaged at Aphrodite's Rock in Cyprus after four months and a previous one month long date (imagine a first date lasting one month and covering 5 countries, needless to say we got to know each other QUITE well!). We then celebrated our engagement in Paris, France. Yes, it's actually been THAT magical! We can't tell you how many border/customs agents have swooned over our story. Except that first time when Jenn flew to England from the cruise on a separate flight from Leon as it was unplanned; she was supposed to stay cruising and go to Bora Bora, Tahiti and Hawaii; in our haste Jenn forgot to get Leon's home address, and he was in air when she needed it and she was questioned as to why she didn't know her boyfriends home address and why she was there when he wasn't even in the country yet!!! SO MANY travel stories and tips to tell - that is for sure! Who are we? Jennifer David Jenn is a former blogger in her 40's, has spent much of her life raising children (both her own and others) and is the founder of many projects. She is a former funeral director and a certified death, life, confidence and mindfulness coach. Jenn could be a perpetual student of the humanities and is a big fan of culture and astrology (she's a Scorpio). She abides by the rule of living life to the fullest and finding ones true calling and purpose in life, through manifestation and the power of belief. Oh and she is a big fan of cuisine (who isn't!) YouTube was a foreign concept, and while Jenn has excellent blogging experience Leon did not. Couple that with a dream to travel, but not much of a plan beyond six months, and it almost became like an extended holiday. That all being said, it was an 'extended' holiday of a lifetime that we spent in the marvel that is Mexico. It was towards the end of that holiday, that we really began to consider other ways of earning cash to support our journey online. Selling all of your worldly possessions is one thing, but it certainly is not a sustainable resource if you do not add to it! So while the teaching helped, it was time and energy consuming, and was starting to feel like the 9-5 lifestyle we had so willingly vanquished in order to see the world. We had to look beyond Mexico, and answer deep questions about what we wanted to achieve here. Do we just want to live in cheaper countries? What do we do with all of the amazing places and sights we are seeing? It was answering these very questions that led us to YouTube, blogging, and ultimately Closer Lives. With our blogging and website developing experience we were able to build this website alone, albeit with the help from Wix! After three years of traveling and research Closer Lives has manifested into a travel blog, store and poetry site with over 40k article views. Maybe miniscule compared to others, but we are still blown away that so many people have come to our site and hopefully, with our hand and our hearts, have been able to take away something useful, helpful, or even inspirational. We are growing with Closer Lives and Jenn & Leon over on YouTube, and together with 25k followers combined on Instagram we are continuing to learn, travel and grow with this lifestyle. In 2023, we saw some wonderful growth on YouTube, rapidly topping 1 million overall views and ending the year with over 10k subscribers (we started with 1k). As of June 2024 we are at 13k! We aim to reach 100 countries around the globe and will video, photo and document all that we can to deliver the best blogs and vlogs out there.
